ACCUSATUS

Accusatus_black_text.jpg

Set against the backdrop of pivotal historical events—the Hundred Years' War, the witch trials of the early 1500s, the emigration of French refugees, and the devastating sweating sickness—the film intertwines real historical elements with a poignant fictional narrative. At its heart is the story of a woman suffering from stress-induced psychosis, a condition we explored in consultation with a psychiatrist to bring authenticity and sensitivity to her portrayal.

Beyond its historical roots, Accusatus carries a timely resonance, drawing parallels between the societal fear and prejudice of the past and modern-day immigration tensions. The film examines how communities often vilify those seeking refuge from hardship, a especially urgent theme today.

This ambitious period drama features an all-Essex cast of talented reenactors, shot in a 14th-century cottage that provides an evocative and authentic setting. The production brought together a passionate team of local creatives, producers, and crew members from Essex, truly celebrating our region's artistry and dedication to storytelling.
